The leaves used for the dark Maduro wrapper and the lighter natural wrapper are quite different. Leaf for Maduro wrappers has to be tougher to withstand the additional growing time and processing needed to make this leaf. As a result, Maduro wrapper is thicker and tougher, and has more prominent veins than other varieties. These characteristics are completely acceptable in Maduro wrappers. Even the toughest Maduro wrappers are not nearly as tough and resilient as the leaves used for binders.
